Social Disparities

The girl in the middle was in Stage 2 Malnutrition... We checked on her to see if the PediaSure Dr. Suncin recommended for her did what it was supposed to, that is, boost her weight up. However, she was still in the critical malnourished stage.... A can of PediaSure costs alot and lasts for only up to a few weeks. Families like her's would have to starve for a month to be able to continue the little girl's sustenance. That's when FIMRC steps in....

Dirt floors, typical in Las Delicias homes, make children more susceptible to poorer health outcome such as increased risks for intestinal parasitism.

Water comes once every 15 days in Las Delicias. Typical homes have a "pila" where water is stored. If not covered, they often become breeding grounds for mosquito larvae (Dengue and Malaria are huge public health issues in El Salvador).

FIMRC provides the Las Delicias homes with these water filters (made out of clay with a silver lining), which trap sediments and make the water 99% bacteria-free. Public health at its best.
